EUC Tip 90: New Paint on a Old Truck, RDP 8.0 for Win 7

RDP 8.0 is disabled by default, change Group Policy settings on the Windows 7 system you’ll be connecting to:

“Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment\Enable Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0” should be set to “Enabled”

“Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections\Select RDP Transport Protocols” should be set to “Use both UDP and TCP”

1948-Chevy-Truck1You want UDP for the best possible performance and connect through the remote gateway if possible. RDP 8.0 will switch back to TCP if UDP is losing too many packets or if the protocol is not available.

There is also an update for connecting with RDP 8.1 client to Window 8.1/ Windows 2012r2 machines
