Quest Software today announced vRanger 6.0, giving the ability to back up and restore physical Windows servers along with virtual. While the product isn’t GA yet good to see one piece of software for both worlds.
vRanger 6.0 delivers OS support for Windows Server 2003 and 2008, and also will support Windows Server 2012 when it’s released.
vRanger 6.0 enables physical server backup by deploying distributed agents that send data directly from source to repository, thus delivering enhanced scalability by eliminating an extra step and bottlenecks in the backup process.

The big news for me is the “Baby Steps” towards NetVault Extended Architecture (XA). NetVault XA was first shown at Storage Field Day and I thought the SLA’s with Backup would be huge feature for enterprise customers. vRanger 6.0 starts to add some of the web services needed to accomplish this loafty goal.
