Windy City + VDI = BriForum 2011

I am very excited to be speaking at BriFourm this year. My topic is Cutting Edge Operational VDI Tips: Prevention of Becoming Bleeding Edge. I speak on JULY 20, 2011, 9:45-11:00 AM. I think it will be a great session as misery loves company and I have learned plenty along the way of my VDI journey. My session will be based on VMware View but something’s will be able to transfer across vendors.

My current company has been able to deploy over 500 seats of VDI without really any cutting edge storage solution but we are seeing the bottlenecks creep in. We have also had some networking problems that were a huge pain but could have avoided with a little better planning. A VDI deployment touches all aspects of your IT department, helpdesk, application, server, storage, network and really needs to be thought out. My session will mostly be technical based tips but there will be some on the process side as well.

At the last Saskatoon VMware User Group we had a rock star cast from the VMware View Team. They talked about the new release “Monaco“. As I am on NDA and hopefully will be starting the Beta soon so I can`t talk about new features. I hope I can get come clearance to talk about how to prepare your organization for it though. View 5\Monaco will make a great platform even better.

I hope to see old and new friends in the Windy City.
